Fitting In or Standing Out?

Recently I had an opportunity to worship at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach. Their guest speaker for the evening was James Caviezel who played Christ in Mel Gibson's film "The Passion of the Christ." During his talk James mentioned that Christians are not merely to "fit into" the exisiting culture but to "stand out" as a witness to Christ and His church. In what ways do we "fit into" the norms, values and customs of our society? In what ways should Christians "stand out?" If we do live in a secular society how can Christians exert their influence?

hey pc,
my study group is working on the power of the praying wife by stormie o'martin. in chapter 8, his fears, we had an unsettled discussion about a passage the author quoted. Luke 12:5 "I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell". After figuring out that the Him is God... we didnt get the part as to why God is killing us? isnt it our sin that kills us and condemns us to hell? we have free will.
i will check with the girls to make sure i have my question correct. in the mean time what to you think?
